This project was governed by the Corp
of Engineers. It involved the blasting and coating of three sets of
Carbon Steel miter gates designed to contain water in a lock and dam
system on the Illinois River. The gates were matched sets of gates
measuring 39' x 60' to 50' x 60 each leaf of the match set. They
were coated with a Military specified coating system of one Vinyl
Zinc Coat followed by three coats of alternating colored Vinyl
Enamel. This project was completed under extreme critical parameters
regarding coating thickness, atmospheric conditions, employee
certification, safety guidelines and schedule demands. The very
soundly reinforced structures, season in which the work was
performed, and the stringent Corp of Engineer regulations and
specifications combined with an extremely accelerated work schedule
presented itself as a worthy adversary, but was completed on time, in
budget and perfectly in tune to the requirements set forth by the
Corp of Engineers.
